Meet The Collective
We are a multi-disciplinary collective of designers, storytellers, & artists.
Aileen is an exploratory designer and craftswoman. With a background in architectural design, she focuses her practice on process-driven material explorations and advocates inter-disciplinary collaboration. She is interested in applying this process into design strategy for circular, sustainable systems.
Aileen is currently pursuing a professional masters degree in material futures at the University of Arts London, UK.
Alex M. Chong
Alex is an educator, a digital product strategist, and interaction designer. Founding the Makeshift Collective in 2009, Alex is fascinated by collaborative dynamics and the interplay between different disciplinary perspectives. His expressive mediums include environments, film, dance and photography.
Alex consults for small businesses and technology startups, and is currently a Lead Educator teaching Experience Design at BrainStation Toronto.
Dylan is a architectural designer and photographer. He expresses himself through photography, design-build projects andcommunity-oriented architecture. Highly meticulous and detail-oriented, Dylan focuses his professional journey to discover connections between built environments and human experience.
Dylan is currently pursing a professional masters degree in architecture at the University of Toronto.
Hugo is a designer who connects small intricacies with the big picture (and vice versa). Hugo's sensitivity to scale enables him to quickly understand built environments. He cares deeply about process and places an emphasis on tactile explorations; working models, assembly details, and extensive notes can be found at his work desk. Hugo works through story-telling, play, and scale, creating humorous by-products
Hugo works professionally as a project manager.
Jeremie is an experimental fabricator. Jeremie loves to practice and share his passion for experimental fabrication and 3D digital representation, and mentors students to help accelerate their potential. Jeremie enjoys experimenting, is sharp and impulsive in his design process, and is meticulous with his craft.
Jeremie is a recent graduate from Carleton University's School of Architecture and is interested in UX/UI design opportunities.
JULIAN CHU SNIDER
Julian is a talented woodworker and designer who loves to clarify tiny spaces into highly-functional spaces. Julian works resourcefully and pragmatically, and expresses himself through carpentry with functional solutions. Julian's mantra is to "think small" to emphasize and enhance minimal living.
Julian runs his own professional woodworking practice.
Nam is a multi-talented cinematographer, designer, and woodworker. Nam is fascinated by storytelling projects, and experimental visualization, expressing himself fluidly between digital and physical media. Nam's mediums include video, design-process, and woodwork. Nam is fascinated by the intersection of disciplines to cross the digital with physical.
Nam works professionally as a freelancer making promotional videos for a variety clients including tech startups promoting physical and digital products.
Nick is an artist trained as an architectural designer. He explores his art through the mediums of sculptures, model making, painting and photography. Nick cares deeply about understanding tools in order to express his work intuitively and naturally.
Nick is currently pursuing a professional masters degree in architecture at Carleton University, Ottawa.
Thompson is now in back in Toronto.
