We promote the Makeshift philosophy of learning through collaborative experiments that expand our creative portfolio as individuals and as a collective. Together, we help each other shine. Our goal as the Makeshift Collective is to inspire, motivate, and challenge others to be creative; to try something different, meet new people, and learn something new. Somewhere in between sleep, work, school, and life, we make it happen. We make magic happen.
Our makeshift studio currently consists of: miscellaneous hardware, software, and technological enhancers, 6 desks, 8 chairs, a sectional, a reference library, a portrait studio with photography equipment, several lamps, modeling tools, art supplies, a kitchen sink, a coffee maker, and ever expanding membership.
Makeshift is an improvised group of creative young problem solvers.
We are no more and no less than the individuals who contribute to it. Each member is working hard at pursuing their own passions, and is using the resources of the group as an opportunity to start formalizing ideas previously filed away due to other obligations. We gathered together to pool our resources, provide intellectual support, share knowledge and information, spark learning and collaboration, and create dialogue in hopes of motivating self-improvement and strengthen our set of skills. We believe that this conceptual framework will help foster a greater sense of confidence that we can use to fuel our pursuits in various disciplines.
Makeshift is a communication tool.
We like the word challenge. Each challenge brings together a unique combination of individuals so we can never predict the results. Sometimes failure is a measurement of success, but this will only be revealed in retrospect. We do not discourage obstacles along the way as they are crucial to the makeshift process. Improvisation keeps on our toes, and from this vantage point we are apt to uncover something new. We invite others to join us in our future challenges, as well challenge others to initiate their own projects with the creative people in their lives. To create a challenge, all you need is (a) a host, (b) a project/medium of expression, (c) a team, and (d) a deadline. We’ll let you define success.

Makeshift is a gateway.
We use the group as a platform to amplify and unify individual voices. We bring our own agendas to the table and let brainstorming session’s structure our discussions. Once the summer of 2009 ends, the group will disperse but have an opportunity to keep in contact via a virtual makeshift network. This network serves to incubate new challenges that individuals present to the group in hopes of actualization. We want to expand in the near future as we host more challenges and add new people to our growing community.
Stay tuned for future challenges.
